Wayuu Bags

The theme for the second contract was the Colombian Wayuu culture and their weaving craftsmanship. This contract, consisted of the design and implementation of a fully functional webpage and three you-tube ads for an (invented) company selling wayuu bags (known as “mochilas”).

Wayuu is a first-nations band that inhabits a dessert peninsula in the north-east corner of Colombia, known as La Guajira. The community has more than 800

artisans weaving all kind of objects, following their ancestral heritage, and as means of survival.
Wayuu bags are multi-functional, not only as ornament but as carrying devise. Being a native from Colombia, this project was very close to the author’s heart: he grew up admiring the colorful and intricate designs of Wayuu bags.

The intent with the website was not just to create a business, but to promote the culture and heritage of these beautiful bags, inviting buyers not to just buy a colourful (and sturdy!) mochila, but a “piece of Colombian heritage,” and eventually, enticing them to visit this region.
